The Church is also known as the Madre De Deus Church and is specially renowned among the pilgrims and tourists for the ‘Feast Of Christ The King’ celebration. Vettukad church is located by the Arabian Sea and it is within 3 Km from Shanghumugham Beach. The feast of Christ the King is celebrated in the 3rd Sunday of November every year. The feast at Vettukad church attracts lots of devotees and tourists from all over Kerala. The present Vettukad church was built in 1934. Its history dates back to St. Francis Xavier who established the church centuries back. The feast of Christ the King at Vettukad church lasts 10 days. The last day of the feast is celebrated with a grand procession covering the entire parish.

The nearest railway station to Vettukad Church is Kochuveli Station at about 3 km and Trivandrum central railway station at about 7 km. Trivandrum International Airport is about 3 km from Vettukad Church. KSRTC operates regular bus service from Trivandrum city to Vettukad

Shanghumugham Beach Trivandrum

shanghumughamShanghumugham beach is situated at around 8 Km from Trivandrum city. It is very near to Trivandrum international airport. Shanghumugham beach is a nice place to spend an evening on a weekend. Attractions at Shanghumugham beach includes a large sculpture of ‘Jalakanyaka’ by famous sculptor Kanayi Kunjiraman. There is also a small amusement park for children. There is a star fish shaped restaurant at Shanghumugham beach. Veli tourist village and Akkulam are very near to Shanghumugham beach. Most of the times the Arabian sea is calm at the beach. Watching sunset at shanghumugham beach is a memorable experience.

Indian Coffee house serves typical Kerala style food near the beach. The Coffee house is also a vantage point to watch the sunset.

There is a long walkway beside the beach which can be used for an evening stroll. Fishermen bringing their catch in the early mornings is also a memorable experience to tourists visiting the beach. Many Trivandrumites spends their evenings at the Shanghumugham beach. There is an ancient stone pavilion on the beach. Famous Christian pilgrim center, Vettukad church is also very near to Shanghumugham beach.

Arthunkal St. Andrews forane church has been elevated to Basilica. Arthunkal St. Andrews Forane church is a famous pilgrimage center of St. Sebastian. Arthunkal is located at a distance of 22 Km from Alleppey and at a distance of around 8Km from Cherthala. It is a small sea side village. Arthunkal St. Andrews Church celebrates the feast of St. Sebastian in the month of January every year. The most important feast day is the 20th of January.

Arthunkal Church elevated to the status of Basilica on the 9th of July 2010. It is the first Basilica of Alleppey  diocese and the 7th Basilica in Kerala. The upgrade to Basilica is an important mile stone in the history of Arthunkal church. It was the first parish in Alleppey diocese.

The feast of St. Sebastian attracts lots of tourists from all parts of the world, not just Christian devotees. Kovalam comprises of three beaches known as Light House Beach, Howa Beach and Main Beach. There are plenty of tourist  resorts at Kovalam. MunnarMunnar is an attractive tourist hill station located in Idukki district, Kerala. It is situated at an altitude of around 6000 ft above sea level. Munnar offers a cool and calm climate with lots of fresh air. It is a well known tourist destination in Kerala. The tourist season in Munnar is from August to May. Tea gardens in Munnar attracts lots of tourists.  The name Munnar is derived from Munnu (Three) Aar (River). Munnar is the meeting place of 3 rivers named as Madurapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala.

Munnar was once a sleepy town with just tea plantations. Scenic beauty of  Munnar and its cool climate attracted lots of tourists. Government of Kerala declared Munnar as a tourist spot in 2000 and this enhanced the development of present day Munnar.

Munnar’s lush greenery, calmness, mountain scenery and cool refreshing air attracts plenty of tourists throughout the year. The tea plantations around Munnar looks like a green carpet on the hills and mountains. Munnar os well known for Neelakurinji flower which blossoms only once in 12 years. Another attraction of Munnar is Nilagiri Thahr – (Mountain Goats) which can be seen at Eravikulam National park at a stones throw from Munnar town.

Places to visit in and around Munnar are Mattuppetti dam, Kundala dam, Echo point, Eravikulam National park and Top station. Best time to visit Munnar is from August to May.
